2008 SEASON UPDATES
We have expanded our shooting sports program to provide more opportunities for Scouts and Scouters to take full advantage of the range. There will now be a shotgun instructor in addition to the rifle instructor so both the rifle and shotgun ranges can operate at the same time! As you sign up merit badges be aware that you can now sign up for rifle at 9 am, 10 am, 3 pm, and 4 pm. You can also sign up for shotgun now at 9 am, 10 am, 3 pm, and 4 pm. Please go to the forms section of the website to get your updated Merit Badge Pre-Registration form, Leaders Guidebook, and Merit Badge Grid (excel form).
This year one of the newest staff members to Camp Long Lake comes all the way from Cairo, Egypt. We are fortunate to have an International Summer Camp Staff member join us this summer. He is very excited to come to Wisconsin and share his Scouting career in Egypt with all of you at Long Lake. Come find Mr. Khalil at Long Lake, he will be working in Project First Class.
CORRECTIONS
Some of you may have gotten a copy of paperwork that had the wrong time for Kayaking BSA, the correct time should be 9AM.
WEBSITE ADDITIONS
If you go to the reservation part of the website, you will see that our campsites are hyperlinked to a PDF file. Each campsite has a file that has been created for your assistance in choosing the right campsite for your troop. If you click on a campsite that you are interested in, you can view a little explanation of the site, and several pictures to help you see what the campsite looks like.
OPPORTUNITIES STILL AVAILABLE
There are still campsite vacancies for troops who are still looking for a camp to give their scouts the opportunity to earn merit badges, practice Scouting skills, enjoy a week in the outdoors, and to work towards Eagle. Sign up your troop for Camp Long Lake Summer Camp in 2008. Additional information can be found on the reservation page.
Don’t forget that we also offer provisional camping to those Scouts who are looking for a second week of camp, or unable to make it to camp with your own troop. The second week of camp is only $175! If you have more questions please contact Brad Singer, Camp Director, at SingerBT18@uww.edu.
We still have positions for 14 year old Scouts or older who want to come up to camp as a Counselor in Training (CIT). Please fill out the application to be a CIT in the Staff Application section of the website. Don’t wait too long, or you will miss out on a great chance to see if being a staff member is right for you.
BRIEF HISTORY
Camp Long Lake was purchased in 1945 by the Potawatomi Area Council. During 1946, its first summer of operation, 308 boys camped over a period of six weeks. The camp season eventually expanded to eight weeks by 1965 and served 1701 boys in 1970 or 1971.
M. H. "Uncle Bud" Smith served as Camp Ranger from 1957-1979 and as Camp Director from 1972-1979. He was responsible for much of the program development that still affects camp today. Cary Kazcik served as Ranger from 1980-1987 and also as director from 1981-1986. Jim Greicar then became the Ranger in 1987 to 2002. He also served as Camp Director from 1995-1997. Mike "Shorty" Zindars was hired as Ranger in 2003. The camp season was shortened to five weeks in 1994, but was expanded back to six weeks in 2001. In 2005, the camp week was further expanded to seven weeks due to attendance of 1103 Scouts in the 2004 season.
Fred Pabst donated the original funds to construct the Dining Hall in 1950. The Dining Hall has since become a central area of camp which brings back many fond memories to Scouts and Scouters alike. Adult and Junior Leader Training courses have their patrol flags proudly hung from the rafters along with National Jamboree flags dating back to the 1950s. The Dining Hall underwent a major renovation completed in 1991.

Order of the Arrow Wag-O-Shag Lodge has been active in promoting and serving camp virtually since its beginning. The lodge donated funds for what is now the Nature Cabin in 1953. It later raised part of the funds for its 2003 renovation into the OA/Nature Cabin.
Camp Long Lake has grown and kept changing with the times. Traditional merit badge offerings were augmented with a Project First Class program in 1991 after changes in Boy Scout advancement requirements that challenged boys to complete their First Class rank in a year. A Climbing Tower was built to challenge Scouts 14 years of age and older in 1998.
